There is not a screen to stop debris from entering motor area and burning motor up.I used this thing twice and it was toast. Took it apart and found armature damage from debri. B&D does not offer a replacement motor, just a new unit. DO NOT BUY THIS.

I have used my hog for three seasons and it contnues to suck up the leaves with great force. The machine itself is pretty light weight and the two speeds let you switch between slow for wet leaves and fast for dry leaves. My only complaint, (and it is a big one), is the stupid collection bag. The bag is ridiculously small!! I have no idea why B&D would put out such a great blower/vacuum with such a little bag. The bag will fill up within 3minutes if you have a big pile of leaves. However this year I did purchase the B&D collection attachment Black & Decker BV-006 Blower/Vacuum Leaf Collection System and it has made life a lot better. I would highly suggest using both.

I have a ton of leaves – most are maple and oak with only one large type of leaf. I say this because that would be the shortfall if your yard was packed with very large leaves- I can see how the vacuum tube could get clogged. However,I bought the leaf hog with the leaf collection system and love it! I bought a rectangle shaped trash can at Wal-Mart that had a lip going around it. The bag never came off and was easy to put on and remove. The can was for 32 gallons. I bought contractor trashbags at Lowes – 42 gallons and that allowed the trashbag to fit snug over the can. I have not had a single problem….I simply fill the bag up, tie it and roll the can to curb and turn the can over…no lifting at all.
I had a craftsman – before this product – without a leaf collection system and the bag blew out in a day….I would bet the same may true for this model…so I suggest you get the leaf collection attachment…it has been wonderful! I hope this helps!

Works well on the lawn but the pesky leave are hard to blow out of the groud cover part of the garden. Works well for my needs and delivered just in time for the leaves to start falling.

But do recommend to make a hole on trash can top just where hose fits through it is best. I highly recommended for people thinking of buying those items or just viewing them. I personally give those items a 5 stars.
