Don’t make this mistake! Horrible customer service from the manufacturer., November 19, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
When I bought this a month ago, I thought it would be perfect for my use – lots of rose canes that the city won’t take because of the thorns. The first couple hours I used it were as promised, chopping the dry rose canes into a nice mulch.
The problems began when the blades started to dull. I went to flip the blades, and the screws immediately stripped. Making matters worse, the screws are made especially for the chopper, and I couldn’t find a good substitute at any of my local hardware stores.
The reason I’m giving this one star is because four weeks ago, I emailed the company to buy replacement screws. No response! I called three weeks ago, and talked to a customer service rep who said that he’d get them out to me ASAP. Three weeks later still no response, and no parts!
5.0 out of 5 stars Eco shredder, November 6, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
This was my first chipper/shredder purchase and I am quite pleased with the performance. Assembly was quick and easy. The blades stayed sharp through several days of chipping 6′ long privet hedge branches. My only problem occurred when feeding wet leaves in the hopper caused the motor to stall. I won’t do that again… I would recommend this shredder to anyone interested in home gardening.
5.0 out of 5 stars Eco- Shredder ES1600, November 2, 2011

Once I received the package, it took less that 20 minutes for set-up. It is easy to use, does the job, cleans easily and clearing a jam is easy. A good purchase.
4.0 out of 5 stars Chipper works well for the money, November 2, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
I picked up this chipper several months ago, and have used it to reduce a number of large branches to a small pile. This unit will handle the usual small 1/2 inch diameter branches without issue, but you need to take your time with branches larger than that. It is not overpowered, but if you take your time, it will get the job done. And, its far faster than working with an axe and hatchet!
As for power, note that this unit has a 15 Ampere motor, so do not use a 100 foot extension cord on it. That will really reduce its power output. I’ve picked up a 10 foot #12 extension cord that worked out very well.
As for the negatives, trying to shove a pile of leaves through the chippers small chute is a lesson in frustration. And, the exit for the chips must always be completely clear at all times. If your chipped pile rises up high enough to cover the exit chute, the chipper will immediately plug up.
For small yards and small branches, I’d recommend this unit as a pretty good chipper.
(Note, I also had a LOT of old papers and checkbooks that could not be tossed out, so they were run through this chipper. No, it is not as good as a professional shredder in that most papers shread to a square inch or two. But it filled up two 30 gallon leaf bags of shredded paper in under an hour.)
4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, October 16, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
The only reason this does not have a 5-star rating is due to the instructions. Some reviews say it is “light”. I am more inclined to say the instructions might as well have been omitted and not been missed by the purchaser. If you have previous experience in putting things together, you will be fine. If not, well I hope you have a friend who is.
We haven’t used this for anything more than dried corn stalks so far, but it worked better than we had expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad so far, October 14, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
I’ve produced about 2 large wheelbarrows of nice mulch so far with this thing. It can take surprisingly thick branches for being electric, but you might have better luck if you remove the flap-guard on the branch port, which causes resistance and binding when jamming branches into it. I also removed the exit chute guard since it was causing some jamming issues, especially if you don’t notice the pile building up. Some people remove the top chute, but I wouldn’t do that if I were you since you often bend over the thing while jamming branches in the port– it’s not worth the risk of a chunk of blade metal flying up and killing you. I gave this thing 4 stars, it would have gotten five if not for the broken V-Blade almost immediately upon use. I put some fairly hard desert shrub twigs into the top chute, and the tip of a v-blade snapped off nice and clean. You could barely tell it was broken, except it was now off-balance and caused the motor overload breaker to trip constantly. The v-blades are out of stock and backordered, so you can imagine how frustrated I was. MaxTools agreed to send me a replacement even though it wasn’t a warranty item (consumable), so that was nice of them, but it is still backordered for a month. Not wanting to watch this pile of branches rot in my yard, I decided drastic times caused for drastic measures. I used a bench grinder to grind the other side of the v-blade down about 1/4 inch to match and balance the other blade. Bingo! It’s running like a champ again. Although, I won’t be putting anything besides leaves and maybe the thinnest fresh non-hard twig/clippings into the top chute. The branch port, on the other, is proving to be a workhorse and devours everything I stuff in, so far.
3.0 out of 5 stars works great on dry material, October 13, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
I used my chipper on several types of material. It worked great on dry corn stalks and dry bean vines. When I tried to put fresh okra stalks in, it ground them but very quicky jammed. The green material was to moist and it clogged up like mowing you lawn in the rain. This required me to take it apart to remove the debri. This is not a major problem since I have a compost pile to throw ths stuff on and wait a week or so to chip it into my garden.
5.0 out of 5 stars great buy, October 12, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
This chipper shredder exceeded my expectations after reading several negative reviews.
It DOES jam up on one type of very fibrous weeds which turn into thin threads.
It also was unable to chip wild rose branches close to one inch in diameter
It does a terrific job on blackberry and sticker bush canes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good for small backyard jobs, October 12, 2011
This review is from: Eco-Shredder ES1600 14 amp Electric Chipper / Shredder / Mulcher (Lawn & Patio)
Product assembled fairly easily–only a half dozen screws and washers.
Used it for small branches and twigs and reduced them to a small pile of nicely ground mulch.
If there’s a downside, it does not self-feed–you have to push the branches and clippings in. For home use, however, this is probably a good thing from a safety standpoint, since it’s easy for shirt sleeves (and limbs) to get dragged into self-feeders.
Good value for small backyard jobs.
